As we grow up in this harsh world, and enter into our teens, we start to build a perception of a magnificent and unique college experience seen likewise in movies nowadays, but we all know deep inside that something that just isn’t right.
If any layman was asked what colleges are there in Delhi, the most common reply you would get is “Delhi University and then the others…” This is quite true, but is it because of the quality education? Though it is a valid argument that many of the top colleges under Delhi University have a top notch academic base, but that’s not the eye candy, the real treat for its students is great ambiance and atmosphere of the college. The ambiance of DU colleges is created through its long history of internal groups/clubs/societies that help each and every student find his space in this big bad world. Getting into good DU colleges isn’t a piece of cake, that’s why those who don’t make it in there, end up with the ‘Other colleges’ lot.
The other colleges that are so publicly shunned also do provide great infrastructure, academics and placements, but that’s where it ends. Most ‘Other colleges’ lack the so called ‘College Life’ because of lack of support from either the staff or the students itself to initiate and bring up a society/club/group to bring to its college those extra-curricular activities which not only help them understand the world better, but also help them grow further and deeper in their fields.
Being a part of the ‘Other College’ group, I know how it feels. Every day coming to college monotonously, the same way we did for our schools. Seeing many people trying and failing to create a DU like atmosphere can confirm the fact that initiating it isn’t everyone’s game. A question arises each time I see this happen…”Why is it that it’s working in DU, and not here?” And the answer for the same is yet to be found. Just like in the movies, we to overcome this streak of failed attempts seek a hero; someone who could break the shackles that bind us to a college life of only studies. We see these heroes everyday but we don’t notice them, because they aren’t men wearing colorful costumes, but yes, they do wear a mask, the mask of a common man, a man who’s been on the move for days on these dusty roads to search for People who would listen to his ideas and would show genuine interest. These heroes know there is no guarantee that they will find success, but what can they do? They have to try, they just have to, because it’s not just about their college’s reputation, but it also decides how their college years will go by and what they will become in the coming years.
There are many people who just don’t understand why is it so important to have a thriving college life, it might be because they aren’t in college yet, or they just don’t get it, but the fact is most of us while passing through this phase of our lives, don’t understand its importance. The moment we are through with it, we realize we just missed out on something important, something which could have changed us, and the fact that there is no way to know what things could have been if those crucial years were different really bites hard inside.
We all want to make the most of our lives, because we are just mere puppets of what we see and are controlled by what’s projected towards us. Seeing all that glamorous and mind boggling lifestyle of the actors in movies, sometimes we forget that nothing shown in them is real, and it is just a mere projection of our dream/fantasy world on a big screen, far different from what the big bad world has to offer.

Wow! Thank you! I continuously wanted to write on my blog something like that. Can I include a portion of your post to my site?
“I like this! So great that I’m definitely coming back again later.”
Being a part of the ‘other colleges’ is certainly not easy. You tend to try and do everything to turn your life in a direction you wanted but sadly, you CANNOT. The fault is not ours, it is the education system that is at fault, the system that lets only the above 96% scoring population to actually permeate and get to the world everyone wants to be. It is unfortunate that nothing can really be done about it.
